As a twist for this latest version, we celebrate American coopers through a partial ‘finishing’ in very special barrels comprised of American white oak that has been air-dried for two years. They are made for us by the Independent Stave Company in Missouri, toasted using a highly technical process, given a light #2 char, then sent to Scotland where we fill them with grain spirit for one year. Around half of this whisky has spent 3-4 months in these grain-seasoned casks. Expect a shade more toffee, vanilla and cinnamon notes to accompany classic The Peat Monster characters of bracing sea air and smoke.
Celebrated American artist Marc Burkhardt has worked with us once again. After producing a surreal, Dali-esque landscape for the 10th Anniversary version, here Marc has shown the Peat Monster returning to its origins – New York City. The Monster takes centre stage on a street beneath skyscrapers, with a hint of Central Park around the frame. The famous subway steam grates appear, this time belching smoke.
