The Conternos have owned the land in the heart of the Langhe in the hamlet of Bussia di Monforte d’Alba since the mid-1800s. Now it's in the hand of the family winery's fourth generation, with Franco’s two sons, Daniele and Andrea, running the company and following in the footsteps of their grandfather. They and their team bring fresh insight and innovation to the winery and vineyards, and continue the family business with passion and dedication. They farm 18 hectares of land, which is approximately 44 acres, and their most recent development is the movement to organic farming since 2015. This Barbera is a Superiore, and therefore is aged for one year in 20hl to 25hl barrels and comes from vineyards in Monforte d’Alba, Barolo and Novello communes. It is a classic, high-acid Barbera. Decant it an hour ahead of time to allow the wine to flesh out a bit. Have it with rich, cream sauce pastas. The classic American lasagna would be perfect as well.
